How To Keep Your Pool Looking Beautiful Year-Round

A clean pool can be a haven for summer relaxation. We all love to dive into it after a hard day at work or spend our evenings lounging by it with friends. So when you want to spend time in your pool, you don’t want to see dirt and debris floating around.

Luckily, there are some easy ways to keep your water sparkling clear all year long. Here are some hacks that will have you looking forward to your next summer getaway before the season arrives!

Keep The Pool Water Clean

There are a few steps to keep your pool from looking grimy and worn out.

Keep the water clean: Let’s start with your water. The easiest way to keep your pool clean is to use an inexpensive water filtration system. You can find these online or at your local pool supply store. These systems take a long time to clean the water, but they make all the difference. You don’t want any particulates that are floating in your pool to be left behind. Call our techs if you need help with repair and installation!

Some types of water filters will not remove all of the sediment. And it’s important to wash the filter: Once you’ve completed your clean-up, you should be left with clean water. That’s when you can try to wash the filter to remove debris it picked up.

Clean Your Filter

It’s important to clean the filter in your pool. This will ensure that all the dirt and debris can be filtered out of the water. While this process can seem time-consuming, it’s often cheaper than replacing the filter altogether! Simply dismount the cover of your filter, and rinse the filter. It will take about a minute or so to clean the filter.

Use a pool net and cleaner or other common pool tools, to remove the old dirt, rust, and grime from the liner and attachments. You will be surprised how much dirt can be dislodged without even changing the filters!

Keep The Chemicals Balanced

Before you begin, know what chemicals your pool is using. Most pools have more than one chemical, and those chemicals have a shelf life of several years. A rule of thumb is to start thinking about purchasing chemicals after the following seasons when they go on sale. These are the best products to use:

Always check and keep the chlorine and PH levels on the pool balanced. You want to make sure that the chlorine level is around 3.0 – 5.0 ppm and the PH should be between 7.4 – 7.6.

Aquafin (by skimmexa.com) – This water treatment solution helps reduce dirt, organic matter, debris, and protozoa and is great for pools with a small surface area and for pools that are subjected to high levels of runoff.

Keep The Pool Clear Of Objects

One of the easiest ways to keep your pool clean throughout the year is to keep it free from debris. A few good things to keep out are plastic floats, toys and nets, toys, nets, helium balloons, tennis rackets, pool chairs, and lounge floats.

Clear The Pool Often

To keep your pool clean, it’s best to go through the whole process of cleaning it at least once a week, or you risk having a buildup of limescale (a naturally occurring mineral used in the chemical process in the pool). This is the one issue that can’t be resolved with the above items.

So, make sure to have a regular weekly cleaning routine to keep your pool clean. Regular cleaning of the pool will also do a great job of ridding your pool of impurities.

Know What to Do in Case of a Problem

If your pool is forming green algae or looks grimy/dirty, the first thing you should do is call a professional such as Baires Pool Service. Professionals can help you solve many problems before they actually occur, so make sure to explain all of your issues when you contact us.

Be Aware of The Pool’s Condition at All Times

You should never neglect your pool. You should always keep an eye on it and notice the difference in appearance over time. Look for areas that are discolored and any signs of algae or rust. If you spot a problem, you should immediately call a professional to make sure everything is alright.

Conclusion

Look, we all want our pool home to look nice and function well. But sometimes, we also need to prioritize what is most important — making sure the water chemicals are safe and usable for our family. If you have a filter in your pool, make sure it is replaced at least once a year. Also, make sure you turn your pool’s thermostat up if it is starting to get too cold.

And finally, don’t forget to enjoy your pool!

Although a swimming pool is a great place to cool off, unwanted critters or animals might sneak in.

In the past few years, we see how these critters appear in Florida backyards, a variety of animals including skunks, chipmunks/squirrels, mice, lizards, frogs, snakes, ducks, bunnies, fledgling birds, and even pets.

Preventing critters from getting in the pool

Here are some great ways to lower the treat of having wild animals and pets enter your pool:

Use special pool fencing or kiddie pool fencing that doesn’t allow easy access for the animals. Use taller fences for swimming pools because if a critter gets in the pool, it can drown.

Vacuum pool drains, drain lines, pool covers, the grate, and around the skimmer area.

Clean your home gutters regularly.

Don’t let your pool be empty. Adding a pool cover or screen to your pool will keep the sunlight and debris from entering it.

Close all the outside doors and make sure all the windows and screens are sealed to prevent any critters from coming in.

Seal all the openings with concrete. If you already have a pool, try to seal all the openings with concrete or replace any screens that aren’t working properly.

What to do if there is a critter in the pool

Here are some techniques that may help you in this scary situation:

Use a net or a pool skimmer, or the bristled end of the broom to scoop frogs, birds, and other tiny animals to help them get out of the water.

Try to lure the animal out from the air vents, drain lines, or even underneath the pool decking and push to a shallow area where animals can easily escape; usually included in pool design.

Get rid of any hiding spots or objects that could possibly encourage the critter to come closer. Keep pool area clear – empty all water buckets and toys.

Never call in pest control services or have them in your home without prior notice. Too many times, they kill the animal if they are unable to get it out.

What about pets & snakes

Dogs, cats, and other pets have a very large appeal for pools especially when they are living in close proximity.

To avoid attracting snakes to your backyard – mow the lawn frequently and avoid feeding your pets outside. Uncovered food is a magnet for attracting unwanted critters. Also – remember to remove any standing water in your backyard, they are attracted to anything that holds water and is close to the ground. Snakes are also wary of vinegar and ammonia, so if you spray it around your pool area, will help keep them away.

Instead of a traditional gift this holiday season, why not buy something for their pool or spa?

Check out these great gifts that are sure to make any pool lover smile. Let’s face it; holiday shopping can give you anxiety, so to avoid the shopping frenzy this year, we have a great list to help you!

Great ideas for pool & spa lovers backyard

12’ Hot Tub / Spa Topper / Cover

As the cold weather begins to come, it’s time to give your spa the attention it deserves. The hot tub topper will keeps the water the right temperature for those cooler nights and will maintain it without increasing the heater (and your bill).

Swim Towel Holder

You know how you always forget your towel when you need it? This towel holder is a genius way to keep your towels right next to the hot tub.

Personalized towels and robes

If you think about it, spa towels are the most personal of gifts. But there’s no need to buy a huge amount of towels and then go through the great inconvenience of hanging them out to dry. Instead, buy a “size up” gift and get a personalized robe or towel for your spa-loving friend or relative. You can even do it for your own beloved. Think of it as a well-earned break.

Heated loungers

We’ve seen a lot of examples of heated loungers, but the proof is in the pudding: It works! Fitting all ages and body types, the heated lounger provides your loved one with both pleasure and a new temperature standard for comfort.

Personalized reusable bottles

Glass and pool don’t go together, personalized, plastic or aluminum reusable glasses are a great poolside accessory for pool owners.

Retro lounge chair for pool backyard / spas

There is nothing that feels more luxe than lounging in a whirlpool with a drink in hand. If you are going to invest in a nice backyard accessory, make sure you select the best lounge chair that won’t break the bank. Some chairs also folds up into a compact square and can go on a deck of a pool or hot tub, which helps to add some separation.

Bath bombs and lotions for the ultimate relaxation

Don’t stress about finding an old-fashioned lady your significant other wants to pamper this holiday season; you can create your own spa experience for her by stocking her bath with these ultimate bath bombs and lotions.

Detox Bath Bomb Set

For the ones who feel guilty about “spoiling” themselves, try out the self-care set from Skin Rx. Fill a bathtub with bubbles and some Eucalyptus Epsom Salt. This gift will help cure your love’s stress by allowing them to enjoy some mind-body time.

The best neck pillows for a hot tub

Do you know someone who loves to throw back a cold brew in a hot tub? Well, you are going to want to pair that hot beverage with the best throw pillows for a hot tub. Hot tub and spa pillows come in a variety of fun colors and patterns.

A spa package at a luxury resort

As a pool owner, you may have already fallen in love with some of the luxuries at a spa. They provide everything from massages, facials, and manicures to a pool and garden view.

The best essential oils for a hot tub

Steam showers, whirlpools and hot tubs make wonderful hot spots for aromatherapy, but all too often the scents are overpowering. Rather than a strong scent or even scents, unique essential oils, such as sage and citrus, can go a long way to add the right balance to your spa. These natural essential oils can be used in diffusers, candles and much more!

Timex waterproof watch

If someone on your holiday shopping list loves keeping track of time, they will probably love this watch. Timex is a household name for quality watches and is known for making them usable in any weather, including underwater.

Hope this list inspired you to a more creative and varied gift shopping this holiday season! And we’re always here to help you with your spa and pool questions. Contact us today for a free service estimate at: 239.938.6562 or follow our facebook page for more great pool ideas!

What kind of pool shock do you use? Most people don’t think about this question until they have a problem with their chlorine levels. Pool maintenance is very simple when done on time, but it gets complicated very quickly if you let something go for too long.

Just last week my neighbor told me she spent $500 on new pool chemicals for her in-ground swimming pool. She said it’s the most expensive she has ever had to pay, and I know exactly why! She didn’t have a clue what kind or how much of each chemical to use. Not only that but if you get too high concentration of something it might damage your equipment instead of doing what it’s supposed to do which is help clean your water & lower chlorine consumption on the filter.

When do you need pool shock? Let’s review 3 reasons you may need it.

#1 To Kill Algae

There are a few ways to get rid of algae in your pool. One way is by using the natural sun, but this takes time and requires you to get out there every day to stir it so most people opt for chlorinating their pools. There are many different products on the market today that help control algae without harming your pool linings or grass around it.

Algae can be a real problem for swimming pools. It grows quickly and is difficult to remove. However, there is a solution. Baires Pool Service has the right pool shock for your pool. Pool shock, in the right amounts, will destroy all types of algae.

#2 To Kill Bacteria

A new study has shown that some of the most common bacteria, viruses, and parasites can live in pool and spa water. In a study conducted by the National Swimming Pool Foundation it was discovered that after 20 minutes of entering a pool, swimmers have transferred 11 bacterial strains to their skin that can come from water. These include E. coli and MRSA – even Cryptosporidium which is known for causing outbreaks at pools and resorts during summer months.

Baires Pool Service has guidelines to help pool owners protect themselves from harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites. As a Pool Maintenance Specialist, not only do I suggest to my clients the shock amount of water treatment needed for their pool’s size and shape but also why it is necessary.

Shock chlorinating your swimming pool is necessary when there are high levels of bacteria in the water such as above 400 CFU/100 ml sample. The amount of shock you need depends on various factors: type and size of your swimming pool, its capacity, where you live geographically (climate), etc.; just to mention a few aspects that contribute to it.

#3 To Destroy Chloramines

If you swim in a pool or spa, you’ve probably noticed that your eyes burn after swimming in certain pools. Chloramines are driving this problem – and it’s not the only reason why chloramines are bad for swimmers (and their bathing suits).

As you may know, chloramines are not good for your pool water. They have a bonding effect on the walls of the pool itself. What people do not understand is exactly what situations lead to having high levels in their pools or spas.

Chloramines are a byproduct of chlorine and the more you use the higher they will build up. The service we supply is to bring it down, we treat pools with shock so the customer gets clear water again.

How to Shock the Pool

First, you must clean, then lower pH, and finally, define the product you will use and how much will be needed for your pool. After adding the shock, you must brush and vacuum the pool for the treatment to work best.

In conclusion

You must test your pool regularly to find out how much product is needed and when you need to do it.

Having a pool is like having an oasis in your backyard. When you think of the most relaxing places to be, they are most likely near or beside the water.
Since moving to Southwest Florida, we purchased a pool home and love the Summer year-round lifestyle it offers. If you don’t have a pool yet, and are thinking of getting one, do it! It was the best investment we did. We love our Estero, Fl pool and try to get out there as much as we can. Our kids spend countless hours creating beautiful memories! Here’s a list of the 8 best ways that owning a swimming pool can improve happiness, health and family life. Many pool buyers are already aware of most of these, but I think it is important to consider and acknowledge the incredible benefits that this investment is worth.

#1 You will get full-body exercise

Swimming pools are often listed as one of the best exercise options for people who need the benefit of a scalable exercise routine instead of limited, low-impact exercise. Lessons learned in the pool can last longer than exercise, diet, self-confidence and health and are a great motivator for buying a pool that can play a role in a long-term life in nature. People who use their pool as part of their daily exercise often consider swimming and aquatics the best exercise for the body.

#2 Great for your heart

Exercise in the pool is perfect for people who are exercising for the first time, for the elderly, for people who are recovering after an accident or injury, and at the same time world-class athletes who can do as much sport as they can manage in the pool. By adding a backyard swimming pool, you have a choice of destinations for family fun at home. With a swimming pool, you can improve your cardiovascular health and flexibility, while creating a center for family celebrations and events.

#3 Small paradise in your backyard

You don’t have to travel many miles to enjoy a nice pool or a swim, you can have one right in your garden. Adding a backyard pool can help you maintain a positive mental attitude. Swimming is a healthy exercise and is a great way to improve your overall diet and other kinds of exercise. The humid environment of indoor pools can make swimming a great activity for people with asthma.

#4 Spend more time outside, less on screens

On a hot summer day, a swimming pool is one of the things that lures children out of the air-conditioned house. While many adults purchase swimming pools for the fitness component, most do not realize that their children can benefit much, much more from this area. The health benefits of a pool are documented well and children do much better in a pool than they do in a crowded public pool, where they are lucky to turn around without hitting anyone.

#5 You will create beautiful family memories

This may be obvious to ordinary swimmers and athletes, but remember what the pool is like when children play for fun in the summer. Memories come alive when family members play together, with one teaching the younger ones to swim, barbecue, joke, laugh at various things, and watch movies in the pool. It was an accomplished parent who taught me that a swimming pool is also a great meeting place for teenagers, as they tend to gather around the pool in the summer.

#6 You will improve your backyard

After a long day of sunbathing, a swimming pool or private garden is a nice place to relax and brave the heat. Neighborhood envy The idea that you can afford to buy a swimming pool on a hot day makes neighbors wish they had something like you. Making new friends A swimming pool, especially one with a built-in spa, is a great incentive to attract new friends to have romantic conversations and spend relaxing nights with you. Don’t let maintenance be a stress, we can help with pool maintenance in Estero Florida!

#7 Increase your Estero & Naples property value

Increased value of your property – According to the National Association of Realtors a swimming pool can increase the value of your property by 8 to 15 percent. Aesthetic value of swimming pools – No matter how beautiful your house is, it is enhanced by a pool as it provides a certain grace to the landscape and background that no other ornament can emulate. An amenity that increases the value of your home – Installing a pool for your family today is a good sign for reselling, especially if you need to downsize or increase your residence.

Buying a swimming pool with a home loan can save you money. Pool financing can help you get a pool, but you will want to make sure that you have the money you need to get the building right the first time. Before installing the pool, make sure you have a safety plan that includes barriers, swimmers, rescue equipment and swimming lessons.

#8 Easier to teach kids to swim & water safety, especially in Florida

As any responsible parent or pool owner will tell you, the only safe way for children to get into a swimming pool is direct supervision by an adult. Examples of these layers include installing physical barriers to pools and pool alarms, monitoring your children, ensuring that everyone in your household knows the basics of swimming and pool safety, knowing how to swim safely, following the laws and policies of the backyard pool, initiating a review of pool rules and preparing for emergencies. A patch of grass in your backyard will never hope to make your family as happy as the pool.

Have you been thinking about switching to a salt filtration pool system?

Here are some of the benefits you will see:

Your pool will contain a much milder and safer kind of free chlorine as a result of this type of filtration.

Saltwater wastewater systems use fewer chemicals and are easier on the skin, hair, and eyes than comparable chlorine treatment systems.

Since saltwater does not require the additives of a conventional pool, asthma and allergy sufferers will not face the potential complications they would risk in a traditional chlorine environment!

The crucial difference is that a salt tank uses a salt-to-chlorine generator (salt chlorinator) to convert pure salt into chlorine. With the daily production of chlorine from the salt cell, the chlorine content becomes that of the basin. Since the system relies on salt, it is necessary to replace the cells of the saltwater generator every five years, because of the corrosive nature of salt, which is not an issue in a traditional pool system.

We first use a saltwater test set to determine the current salinity of the pool, then calculate how much salt you need from the salt level based on the pool size in gallons, and subtract that amount from your manual for the generator, which includes a salt table. Saltwater pools work the same way as other swimming pools, but instead of adding chlorine tablets, add fine grains of salt.

Sand filtration is the most common filter for saltwater basins and an affordable option for residential and commercial areas. They require around 1 square inch filters per 1,000 gallons of water, so an 18,000-gallon pool requires an 18-inch sand filter tank and a 23,000-gallon pool requires a 23-inch sand filter tank.

Many Benefits When You Switch to a Salt Water Filter

The use of chemicals reduces the need to balance the pool water, which in turn is good for your health and your filtration system as its service life is extended. Sand Filtration is able to use pool sand as another alternative to sand that works well with saltwater systems to make your pool crystal clear.

One aspect to bear in mind is that saltwater benefits all the elements in your pool, not just the pump, the filtering system, the liner, the lighting and the masonry. The traditional chlorine system that we use in our swimming pools pollutes the water that contains chlorine with a hardness that can be irritable. The Sand Filter and pumped salt water system saltwater electrocatalytic oxidation (ECO) to keep your pool water clean and free of bacteria, algae and other disease-causing germs.

The initial cost of a saltwater pool is much higher than that of a chlorine pool, so you will need to purchase a saltwater generator and cleaning system for the pool. Keep in mind that a salt-chlorine generator is only part of a saltwater pool system.

How Saltwater System Works

Salt chlorinator generators use a simple electrolysis process (a combination of water) to separate chlorine and sodium molecules and inject them as liquid chlorine back into the pool. The electrolytic pool cell is often referred to as a saltwater filter, but in reality it is not a filter; it converts the existing salt in your pool water to a low chlorine content by electrolysis. A salt chlorine generator splits the dissolved salt by electrolysis into hypochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite, the two disinfectants used in chlorine pools. The mild saline solution (the standard sodium chloride in your salt shaker) passes through a saltwater generator (also known as a chlorine generator, a salt chlorine generator or salt chlorinator) or a saltwater chlorinator (a swimming pool filter system) and circulates the water, dissolves the salt solution and produces chlorine gas.

If, as mentioned above, you are using a sand filter in a saltwater pool system, there are two other options that you should consider. In particular, the chlorine content is a problem that is mandatory for a pool filter such as the Intex 28675EG sand filter, which pumps saltwater into the system at a flow rate of seven gallons per hour. Another type of filter commonly used in pools is sand, and there are new alternatives to sand that works with saltwater systems to obtain crystal clear water.

High-quality crystal and clear saltwater systems feature a combination of salt chlorination and ozone effects for above-ground basins up to 15,000 gallons. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you buy a chlorine or salt water system for your pool, as long as you are aware of it and willing to carry out the necessary maintenance to keep your pool clean and in balance with chemicals. Many pool owners choose to switch their pool to a saltwater system instead of paying insanely high prices for chlorine treatment or running the risk of not being able to treat their pool at all.

While we use an integrated salt reader to provide most of the salt to the system, we use a separate digital salt reader every time we make a service or maintenance visit to the brine tank.
